A GOOD PLACE TO BEGIN

A few careful steps.
A stronger start.

Setting up your wallet doesn't have to feel complicated. Work through this quick checklist at your own pace. Your device's on-screen prompts are the source of truth.

YOUR SETUP CHECKLIST

Ready when you are.

STEP 02

Set your PIN

Choose a PIN on the device itself. Keep it private and memorable. Your PIN protects access to the device; it is not a replacement for your recovery phrase.

Understand the essentials
STEP 03

Write down your phrase

Your device will show a recovery phrase. Record each word in order on the recovery sheet, check it carefully, and store it offline in a secure place.

SECURITY, WITHOUT SHORTCUTS

The most important
thing to remember?

Your recovery phrase is the master key to your wallet.

Anyone who gets it may be able to access your crypto. Keep it offline, out of photos and cloud storage, and never enter it into a website, app, or chat.

01

Never share your words

Not with support staff, friends, a website, or anyone claiming they can help. Legitimate support will never need them.

02

Trust your device screen

Check the recipient address and transaction details on your hardware wallet before approving. A computer screen alone isn't enough.

03

Pause on urgent messages

Unexpected links, giveaway claims, and pressure to act quickly are common warning signs. Go to official sites directly.

04

Download from official sources

Use Ledger's official website for Ledger Wallet and support. Check the web address carefully before downloading.

A few common questions

Do I need to enter my recovery phrase into the app?

No. A new wallet's recovery phrase is generated and shown on your hardware wallet. Never enter it into a computer, phone, website, or support chat. Only use the recovery process displayed on your device if you are intentionally restoring a wallet.

What if my Ledger device is lost or damaged?

Your wallet can generally be restored on a compatible device using the recovery phrase you recorded. This is why keeping that phrase private and securely stored offline is essential. Refer to official Ledger Support for the correct recovery instructions.

How do I know which app or download is genuine?

Start from ledger.com and use the official download links there. Avoid sponsored search ads, direct-message links, and unofficial app stores or download pages.

Can Ledger Support help me with my recovery phrase?

No. Never share your recovery phrase with support or anyone else. If a person or website asks for it, stop interacting and navigate directly to the official Ledger Support website.
